Information for young people (Easy Read)

Think about volunteering or work experience before you apply for a job.  

Your school or college can help find somewhere to do this.  

It will help you find out what you like.

You will also find out if you will need to have adaptations made for you.  

The National Careers Service gives advice on jobs and skills.  

It is free.  

It is for anyone aged over 13. 

Ask your school or the Employment and Disability Service (EADS) for help.

EADS can help you if going to work is hard because you have a disability.

Mencap is a charity that helps people with learning disabilities or autism.  

They offer lots of help with apprenticeships, internships and traineeships.  

They also provide work placements for young people who need support.

The Local Offer Directory can help you find Mencap services in your area. 

You might see this symbol by a job advert.

It means they want to help disabled people get a job.

If you have a disability, they should interview you if you can do what the job advert says.  

Disability Jobsite helps people with disabilities find jobs.

An Access to Work grant can pay for practical support to help disabled people work.  

Contact the Job Centre or find out more about Access to Work on GOV.UK. 

Connect to Work is a free service that helps people find and keep a job.

It is for people who have:

• a health condition
• a disability
• other challenges that make it harder to work

If you need support to find a job, Connect to Work can help.

You will get support from an Employment Specialist.

They will work with you one-to-one to:

• find a job that is right for you
• get ready for work
• do well in your job

Prospects can help you start a job.

Prospects can help you if you want to carry on learning.

You can get help from Prospects if you are from Northamptonshire and do not go to school or have a job.

You can use the service for 2 years after you finish Year 11.
