Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) project
West Northamptonshire Council has appointed char.gy to deliver one of the largest local on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging programmes in the country.
The project is funded through the government's Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund and supported by significant private investment.
Following a competitive procurement process, more than 3,000 EV charging sockets will be installed across West Northamptonshire. The programme will provide convenient and affordable charging for residents who park on the street and do not have access to a home charger.
Using existing infrastructure
Many of the new charge points will be installed in existing lamp columns owned by the Council and parish councils. This will help reduce disruption, lower installation costs and allow charge points to be rolled out more quickly.
The programme will support the move to cleaner transport and help the area meet its long-term sustainability goals.
Choosing charging locations
Charging locations have been identified using local data and feedback from residents. Priority has been given to areas where people do not have off-street parking and to locations suggested by local communities.
The Council is also working closely with parish councils to identify suitable sites and ensure charging infrastructure is accessible, fairly distributed and meets local needs.
Installation timeline
Installation is expected to begin towards the end of 2026. The rollout will help prepare local infrastructure for the expected growth in electric vehicle use over the coming years.
