Make an arrangement to pay your Council Tax

If you have received a summons or a Liability Order for unpaid Council Tax, we may be able to agree a repayment plan to help you spread the cost of your debt.

Who can apply

You can apply online for a repayment plan if either of the following applies to you:

  • you have received a summons but cannot pay it in full
  • a Liability Order has been made against you and you want to make an arrangement to clear the debt

Who cannot apply

You are not eligible for a repayment plan if you leave it too late and you are contacted by an Enforcement Agent (bailiff). In this case, you will need to repay them directly for what you owe.

Before setting up the arrangement

When setting up a payment arrangement, please remember:

  • the arrangements needs to be calculated so the outstanding balance is cleared by 31 March
  • if your request for an arrangement extends beyond 31 March, your arrangement will be reviewed by a specialist officer to review your circumstances
  • if the officer determines that the arrangement cannot be extended, they will contact you to discuss your options and make alternative arrangements that are more suitable
  • if you have a debt from a previous year, you can set a payment arrangement to pay this off - however, you will have to continue to make the current year’s payment in addition to the previous year’s repayment
  • if you have received a summons or liability order, court costs are automatically added to your outstanding balance and these will be included when you set up a new payment arrangement

Before you apply

Before you start, please have your Council Tax account number ready.

What happens next

We will review your application. You can expect a decision by email or letter within 10 working days.
