Electric vehicle charging

We are working to make it easier for residents to switch to electric vehicles. Through government-funded Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI), we are planning more public chargepoints across the area, ahead of growing demand.
To support people who park on the street and want to switch to electric vehicles, new charge points have been installed across Northampton as part of the Virgin Media Park and Charge project.
Each site has 2 chargepoints, with space to charge up to 4 vehicles. 2 bays are reserved for electric vehicles under a Traffic Regulation Order. The other bays may be designated for electric vehicles in future.
These chargepoints:
- use Virgin Media’s existing street cabinets and ducts
- are owned and maintained by Believ
- were fully funded by Innovate UK
Each chargepoint delivers up to 22 Kilowatts. If 2 vehicles are charging at the same time, each will receive 11 KWs.
Further details on the charge points and how to report any faults can be found on the Believ website.
Grants available
A number of government-funded grants are available to support the installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints and related infrastructure.
These grants aim to help individuals, businesses, landlords and organisations reduce the cost of transitioning to electric vehicles. Funding is available for residential, workplace, fleet and depot-based charging solutions.
