Three-weekly waste collections

How three-weekly collections would work

This change is being considered to harmonise the collections across West Northamptonshire so that all residents who live in similar property types receive an equivalent waste collection service.

Three-weekly collections also encourage recycling and save money in terms of collection vehicles, fuel and waste treatment costs.

How the 1-2-3+ system would work

Your food waste bin would still be collected each week.

Your blue lidded recycling bin would still be collected every 2 weeks.

Your existing black wheeled bin would still be used for rubbish that cannot be recycled. It would be collected every three weeks. If you recycle as much as possible and put food waste in the food bin then you should not have much general rubbish.

If you subscribe to the garden waste collection service, this would continue to be collected every 2 weeks, with a short break at Christmas.

Changes to collection days

Your collection day may need to change in order to introduce the new service arrangements across West Northamptonshire. If it is agreed, we will let you know the exact details of your collection times closer to the time of change.

Find your bin collection day.

You can keep track of your bin collections throughout the year by downloading the West Northamptonshire Council app from:

You will receive weekly reminders about when your bins are collected, which bin to put out, and important updates on waste and recycling services.
