Supporting behaviour change
Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is a national approach that supports using everyday conversations to improve health and wellbeing.
Many health issues can be reduced or prevented, helping people live longer, healthier lives and manage conditions better, maintaining independence and control.
MECC is an approach to behaviour change that uses the millions of day-to-day interactions that people have with others, to support them in making positive changes to their physical and mental health. MECC can be used by anyone who has contact with other people in their day-to-day work.
West Northamptonshire Council offer ‘Train the Trainer’ programmes for external partners who wish to promote MECC within their organisation.

Health Literacy
Health Literacy gives people enough knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence to use health information, to be active partners in their care, and to navigate health and social care systems.
To access, assess and apply health information, people need to be health literate, yet 43% of adults find standard health information hard to understand. By using clear, jargon-free language and accessible formats, we can help individuals feel confident, ask questions, and take greater control of their health.
The above 30-minute Health Literacy e-learning module is designed to help professionals improve how they communicate health information, making it easier for people to understand and use.
