Communities, businesses and individuals

Everyone in West Northamptonshire has a role to play in nature recovery.

By exploring the measures and local habitat map, individuals, businesses, and communities can identify the most effective ways to contribute to nature recovery. Support is available through various environmental charity initiatives and biodiversity schemes.

Engaging with local councillors can help build momentum, secure funding, and gain backing for nature projects. Working with your parish council’s Climate and Nature Champion and/or creating a Nature Recovery Plan helps ensure that actions reflect local priorities.

Individuals can also make a difference by creating wildlife-friendly gardens, joining volunteer days, recording biodiversity, stopping the local use of pesticides, or taking part in community habitat improvement activities.

Sharing these efforts with West Northamptonshire Council, through the West Northamptonshire Nature Map IT, helps track progress towards nature recovery, while submitting wildlife sightings to the Northamptonshire Biological Records Centre (NBRC) supports monitoring species trends and captures the positive impact of local actions.

Please note: When planning and delivering projects, you should seek ecological advice, follow health and safety requirements and obtain any necessary permissions from the relevant authorities and specialists.

This will help ensure projects are sustainable and comply with legal requirements.

You can find guidance on permits, permissions and planning in the support document within the Strategy document and local habitat map section.
