Land managers, farmers and foresters

The strategy should be used as a guide to inform work, identify the best opportunities for nature recovery, and impact how government environmental schemes are applied to land.

Within our farmland nature recover priorities, the measures provide guidance on how and where to implement habitat improvements.

Landowners and managers can use this strategy to make informed choices for their land to support nature recovery, such as creating new wetlands or enhancing existing grasslands.

These improvements have wider environmental benefits on the landscape, improving it for neighbouring communities, such as reducing flood risk, purifying water and improving local air quality.

While the strategy provides a broad overview, local knowledge is crucial for detailed planning. The maps, priorities and measures are based on available data but should be ground-truthed and refined with local insights for best results.

Changes to land should be an improvement for biodiversity and species, therefore consideration of what’s present is key.

Please note: When planning and delivering projects, you should seek ecological advice, follow health and safety requirements and obtain any necessary permissions from relevant authorities and specialists. This helps ensure that projects are appropriate, sustainable and comply with legal requirements.

You can find guidance on permits, permissions and planning in the support document within the Local Nature Recovery strategy document and local habitat map section.
