Links

Make links as descriptive as possible.

A good rule to follow is:

  • for internal links - use the title of the page you are linking to
  • for external links - use a combination of the page title and the website name

This makes it easier for:

  • people using screen readers to cycle through links to find what they need
  • sighted people to scan a page for the link they need

Multiple links to the same page should use the same link text. Vice versa, the same link text cannot be used for links to multiple pages.

Good examples include:

Bad examples include:

  • using 'here' or 'click here'
  • generic terms such as 'find out more'
