Making your money last longer
When considering money and financial matters it is important to undertake your own checks via a reputable and trusted source. Independent financial advisers are available but may charge for their services. Most major banks provide their own financial advisors but may limit you to their products.
We have provided some links to further guidance on websites outside of WNC but we have no input or control of the information available, and it is not an exhaustive list. The links for are information only and we do not endorse or accept any liability for the content or advice available.

The Financial Conduction Authority (FCA)'s Invest Smart website describes the types of investments and the 5 questions to ask yourself before you decide to invest:
- Am I comfortable with the level of risk and can I afford to lose my money?
- Do I understand the investment and could I get my money out easily?
- Are my investments regulated?
- Am I protected if the investment provider or my adviser goes out of business?
- Should I get financial advice?

The Which website suggests other ways of making the most of your money, including:
Downsizing
If your home is larger than you need, you could consider selling your home and buying a smaller one. This would free up some of the value in your home, which you can use to pay for your care costs.
It could also give you the opportunity to live somewhere that might cater better for your current and future needs, such as:
- a bungalow - if you have difficulty with stairs
- a retirement property
- sheltered housing
- extra care housing
Before you decide to downsize, we recommend you consider the advantages and disadvantages.
