End of life care
End of life care includes treatment, care and support for people thought to be in the last year of life.
The DWP Special Rules allow people nearing the end of life to:
- get faster, easier access to certain benefits
- receive higher payments for certain benefits
- avoid a medical assessment
Certain healthcare professionals can provide medical evidence on an SR1 form to support benefit claims under the Special Rules.
This form can be completed by:
- hospital consultants
- GPs
- hospice doctors
- registered nurses with relevant expertise, such as:
- advanced nurse practitioners
- Macmillan nurses
- clinical nurse specialists
- practice nurses with expertise in the management of long-term conditions
For more information, read about Special Rules for end of life and the SR1 form.
