Carers
Unpaid carers
Under the Care Act (2014), councils cannot charge carers for services that involve caring for the cared for person. For example, someone sitting with the cared for person so the carer can go out.
Councils can technically charge carers after a financial assessment, for services specifically for their carer needs. For example, paying for a gym membership as part of a carer support plan.
However, we do not charge carers for any type of support following an assessment of their needs and a support plan being developed.
Carer assessments
Carer assessments can be arranged through our commissioned carer support service, Northamptonshire Carers.
