Heating oil support (interim scheme until 31 March 2026)
We are offering short-term, emergency heating oil support for residents who are close to running out of fuel and cannot afford to buy more.
This interim offer runs until Tuesday 31 March 2026, while we prepare for the new national Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) which begins on Wednesday 1 April 2026.
Who can apply
You may be eligible if:
- you live full time in West Northamptonshire
- heating oil is your main way of heating your home
- your tank is 150 litres or less (priority for households under 100 litres)
- you cannot afford a minimum oil delivery
- you are at immediate risk of losing the ability to heat your home
This scheme is for urgent needs only and cannot help with general cost of living pressures or long-term affordability issues.
How to apply
To request an application form, email [email protected].
A member of the team may contact you for further information.
What happens next: evidence you will need to provide
After submitting your application form, you will need to provide:
- Proof that you use heating oil, such as:
- a recent delivery invoice or receipt
- a bank statement showing payment to an oil supplier
- EPC or tenancy agreement showing oil heating
- Proof of your current oil level
- a photo of your tank gauge with date or timestamp
- if your gauge shows a percentage, you will also need to confirm the tank size (in litres)
- Your financial situation
- bank statements for the last month
- recent payslips or other income information
- details of any savings
This evidence helps us confirm that you cannot currently afford a minimum delivery.
What the support provides
If your application is successful, you will receive a Post Office Cash Out Voucher.
How to get your voucher
- You will receive a secure voucher code by text or email
- Take the code and ID to any Post Office
- The Post Office gives you the cash value of the voucher
- You use the cash to pay your heating oil supplier
This support is a contribution towards the increased cost of heating oil - it will not cover the full cost of a delivery.
What happens from 1 April
From Wednesday 1 April 2026, the new Government Crisis & Resilience Fund (CRF) begins.
This will replace the Household Support Fund nationally and will include specific heating oil support, as confirmed in the Government’s announcement on 16 March.
We will publish full local details about the CRF scheme by Wednesday 1 April.
