Report a licensed premises

We investigate reports about licensed premises when:

• licence conditions may have been breached
• a premises appears to be operating without the required licence
• problems are serious or happen repeatedly

Before you report a problem

Some concerns are dealt with by other council services or partner organisations.

For example:

• underage sales are usually investigated by the police
• food hygiene and food premises complaints are usually dealt with by the Health Protection Team
• noise from licensed premises is usually investigated by the Environmental Protection Team, although the police or Anti-Social Behaviour Team may also be involved
• other nuisance complaints are usually dealt with by the Environmental Protection Team
• counterfeit goods may be investigated by Trading Standards, the police or HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
• concerns about illegal working should be reported to Home Office Immigration Enforcement

How to report a licensed premises

If your concern is not covered by the services listed above, email your complaint to [email protected].

Include:

• your name
• your address and contact details
• the name and address of the premises
• details of the issue, including dates and times where possible
• any supporting evidence, such as an incident diary, photographs or videos

Anonymous complaints

We cannot investigate or record anonymous complaints.

You must provide your contact details when reporting a concern.

What happens next

We will review the information you provide and decide whether further investigation is needed.

If you continue to experience problems and other attempts to resolve the issue have not been successful, you may be able to apply for a review of the premises licence.
